HIV Community Scholars Program

Gilead HIV Community Scholars Program

Empowering Community-Based Organizations to Create Possibilities for HIV Care

The 6th Asia-Pacific Chemsex Symposium is proud to receive the support of Gilead Sciences for launching the Gilead HIV Community Scholars Program which provides an exceptional opportunity to spotlight the community-based organizations (CBO) that are dedicated to the fight against HIV through harm reduction.

Why Does This Symposium Matter?

Since its inception in 2019, the Asia-Pacific Chemsex Symposium (APCS) has evolved into a critical platform where diverse voices unite to tackle the complexities of Chemsex. Bringing together community members, healthcare professionals, CSOs/NGOs, advocates, researchers, policymakers, and donor agencies from across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond, APCS is committed to cultivating meaningful dialogues, sharing valuable insights, and fostering collaboration. Our discussions focus on key populations, HIV/STI prevention, mental health, and harm reduction, all within a safe, inclusive, and culturally sensitive environment.

Roles Of CBOs In Reducing Harmful Chemsex Behavior

CBOs are the backbone of harm reduction and HIV prevention, especially among those involved in Chemsex behaviors. They don’t just offer services—they provide lifelines. They offer a range of services, including but not limited to:

  • Harm reduction programs

  • Peer support groups

  • Mental health and substance use counseling

  • Sexual health education and HIV testing

  • Linkage to HIV care and treatment services

  • Advocacy and support addressing social determinants of health, such as housing and employment

Learn From The Unsung Heroes

For the first time, the Gilead HIV Community Scholars Program is shining a spotlight on the true champions in this fight.  The HIV Community Scholars will be invited to attend the APCS in person, to share their groundbreaking work, learn from experts, and network with like-minded peers.

By working alongside existing HIV care services, CBOs create a comprehensive and supportive environment that addresses the physical, emotional, and social needs of their clients, ultimately reducing HIV transmission and promoting overall well-being. Their deep understanding of and trust with hard-to-reach populations make them uniquely effective in this critical work.
